Never a dull weekend for a Brit in LA

We joined many local Brits in celebrating the Platinum Jubilee this week. A bunch of queens and lesbians got to celebrate the jubilee and gay pride in the same weekend.

While pubs including Ye Olde Kings Head, The Cat & Fiddle and the Yorkshire Brewery put on quite the lavish affairs for locals to celebrate in style, others chose quieter, more intimate celebrations – including us. A quaint picnic in the park seemed like a civilized option so we joined BiLA members Nick Marshall, Roy Magenta, Fred Hulls and Lorraine and Claire, who refer to themselves as the ‘British lesbags’ at Lake Hollywood park for home-made cucumber sandwiches and a few glasses of Pimms and lemonade.

Later that night we got to see the legends Tears for Fears at the sold-out Forum to play their mega hits including “Shout” “Sowing the Seeds of Love” and “Mad World” – so great to see they haven’t lost it and are still very much incredible.

From Tears For Fears to Years and Years? The West Hollywood Gay Pride festival was headlined by Olly Alexander and his British band Years and Years, who wowed the crowd playing his smash hit “Starstruck”, as well covers of The Pet Shop Boys’ “It’s a Sin”, and many other crowd favorites.

But the Jubilee and Pride  celebrations aren’t over just yet. This weekend sees DowntownLA Pride and the BABC, Britweek and Brits in LA all host their own spectaculars next month at the Fairmont Hotel – so stay tuned for more details about that!

Have a great week and stay cool!
