In celebration of the ultimate action film’s 35th anniversary, a stage version of Die Hard is coming to Los Angeles this December – and it’s a musical.
What’s more, a charity single from the soundtrack is being released in a bid to reach the number one spot in the Christmas charts.
And the driving forces behind this double festive treat are director Sandro Monetti and some fellow Brits in LA.
Actor Niek Versteeg (from BBC series Wolfblood) plays hero John McClane and West End stage star Lauren Samuels (Over the Rainbow, Grease, We Will Rock You) is his wife Holly in A Very Die Hard Christmas, which opens December 10 at Theatre 40 in Beverly Hills, just around the corner from the building used as the film’s setting, Nakatomi Plaza. Tickets for the parody musical are available now at www.theatre40.org.
Niek also sings the accompanying single, country pop song ‘I’m John McClane,’ from which proceeds go to charities leading the fight against Aphasia, a condition afflicting Die Hard star Bruce Willis. The record, written by Flynn/Hooper is out on November 10 and you can watch the music video – which reimagines Die Hard as a western – on You Tube or at this link… I’m John McClane – Charity single – YouTube.
Sandro Monetti, director of the show and the video, said: “Both projects are about finding the hero within yourself when times get tough. But the real message here is putting a smile on people’s faces and celebrating the best Christmas movie of all time – and yes, Die Hard is a Christmas film.”
Produced by Raymund King, Brina Palencia and Josey Wells, A Very Die Hard Christmas also features a score by Brits in LA member Elizabeth Rossi and a hugely talented cast and crew of Los Angeles based performers and creators ready to make this the new must-see show of Christmas. Yippee-Ki-Yay!
