Richard Thompson to perform at UCLA Live

Veteran English musician Richard Thompson will appear in a one-night only appearance as part of the autumn UCLA Live! concert series on Friday, November 19th at 8pm at Royce Hall.

Thompson is one of Britain’s most respected singer-songwriters, whose career stretches back over 40 years during his early days with folk rock outfit Fairport Convention and later, with his wife Linda, recording as Richard and Linda Thompson.  Since splitting from Linda in the early 1980s he has performed mainly as a solo act, although November’s performance sees him perform Cabaret of Souls, described as ‘part theater, part bass concerto’. The comedic piece is set in a talent show in Hell.

“If Chaucer was a bass player, and he wrote the prologue to The Canterbury Tales, but then failed to write The Canterbury Tales themselves, it might be something like this,” says Thompson. Joining Thompson are Danny Thompson on double bass and Pete Zorn on sax with special guests Harry Shearer and Welsh folk songstress Judith Owen.

Tickets are priced at $28/38/53 ($15 UCLA students). For more details go to www.uclalive.org
