When you think of Los Angeles, one wouldn’t normally associate it with cloudy, rainy days, but lately that’s all we’ve seen. So when top British fashion designer Julia Clancey decided to show her Sensually Sorbet range on the rooftop of the Palihouse last Saturday, I thought the girl was off her rocker, and prayed the weather would hold up… As luck would have it, the sun shone!
With an impressive background of regular showings in London and garments selling in various boutiques all over world, Julia, showcases Sensually Sorbet as her Spring/Summer 2011 collection and part of her new ‘by appointment only’ boutique now open for business in West Hollywood.
Miss Clancey effectively used silks and chiffons in her ‘sensual’ designs to convey elegance and regality. What worked beautifully in her favor was the fact that each design complemented her model’s skin tones.
The cleverly choreographed show saw its models parading across a fake grass lawn runway in a 360-degree city view setting. And in keeping with the summer garden theme, models stopped periodically to play a spot of croquet… How classy!
You could see that Clancey took special care in the custom crafting and the creation of each piece as the models glided seamlessly, as if floating on air. Her use of colors to signify springtime made this collection pleasurable to watch.
Julia told me, “My inspiration for this collection comes from the perfect English summers day spent in the garden, lots of flowing dresses, they are fruity, vibrant and colorful, but of course I decided to have Champagne instead of tea at my soiree.”
Well, judging from the many faces smiling in the front row, ‘sensational’ Sensually Sorbet certainly seemed to put a ‘spring’ in everyone’s step…
Roll on summer I say, we Brits like a bit of croquet… Mallets at the ready!
