“Fame and celebrity, though initially rewarding, doesn’t give spiritual nourishment,” says Booy Wook 2 author and comedian Russell Brand. “Ultimately, you need to find some true love, some true spiritual connection.” Brand says he’s found that connection with “I Kissed a Girl” pop star Katy Perry.

In Booky Wook 2: This Time It’s Personal, Brand continues where his first book left off, on his rise from drug-induced mayhem to Hollywood star. He includes sexual escapades during his quest to find his true love. Some of his text is from his stand-up act. Brand did Shakespeare with Helen Mirren and it’s funny.

Brand’s drug of choice is sex in this installment of Booky Wook. (Brand says he’s been clean of drugs and alcohol for eight years.) This book seems cathartic, as Brand takes time to reflect, to ask why he did some of the things he’s done.

What makes Booky Wook 2 personal is that Brand has found time to examine his life, even become spiritual. During an interview on The View, Brand told Barbara Walters, “Separation is an illusion; there is only love; we are one.” Although such Vedanta Hindu philosophy could sound corny, or even couch-jumping crazy, it’s sincere and likable coming from Brand. What he’s really saying is he’s found love…or Katy Perry.

Brand, who says he’s treated sex as a sport, is finding some challenges preparing for his wedding with Perry. “Being a groom is a very difficult thing because the bride is in charge. Initially you think, I’ll just say yes to everything. But that’s not enough. You have to be interested…then say yes. You demonstrate understanding, like in a mathematics exam.”

This is the second book by Russell Brand. His first book, My Booky Wook, was a successful celebrity autobiography. His irreverence with mayhem and scandal is a train wreck that you can’t look away from. My Booky Wook was a New York Times bestseller.

Brand likes to jump from topic to topic, which can be confusing. However, he’s always funny. You can’t wait to read what the next chapter in his life will bring.

Russell Brand is a comedian, journalist, TV and radio presenter and actor. He’s won numerous awards including Time Out’s Comedian of the Year, Best Newcomer at the British Comedy Awards, Best TV Performer at the Broadcasting Press Guild Awards and Most Stylish Man at GQ’s Men of the Year Awards. His meteoric rise to fame gave him the keys to the kingdom. Katy Perry’s single act of throwing a bottle and hitting him in the head gave him love.
