It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s Henry Cavill! After a long casting search, English actor Henry Cavill has been assigned the role of Clark Kent for an upcoming cinematic adaptation of the iconic Superman story tentatively titled Superman: Man of Steel.
Cavill is best known for playing Charles Brandon, the Duke of Suffolk, in the television series The Tudors, which tells the story of King Henry VIII. Cavill’s portrayal of the man of steel will mark his first major starring role in a feature film.
Cavill stated: “In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time, and I am honored to be a part of his return to the big screen.”
Zach Snyder will direct the Warner Bros. film, which is expected to be released into theaters in December of 2012. Superman: Man of Steel will not be the first super-hero movie directed by Snyder who directed 300, which tells the story of legendary Spartan warriors, and Watchmen, about retired vigilantes who confront an evil and powerful villain.
Who could have predicted that we would have a British Spider-Man and Superman? Congratulations to Cavill for winning the role of a lifetime. Faster than a speeding bullet, another British-Hollywood star is born!
