Brit film studio Pathe UK has publicly released the first photograph of actress Meryl Streep in character as former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher for the upcoming movie called Iron Lady. Principal filming of the dramatic feature recently commenced in London.
The movie reportedly focuses on former Prime Minister Thatcher’s actions during the days immediately preceding the Falklands War in 1982. The film also stars English actor Jim Broadbent as the former Prime Minister’s husband Denis Thatcher. The project is being directed by Phyllida Lloyd, who previously directed Streep in the 2008 cinematic extravaganza Mamma Mia!
Speaking about her approach to portraying the legendary female political figure, Streep said: “I am trying to approach the role with as much zeal, fervor and attention to detail as the real Lady Thatcher possesses – I can only hope my stamina will begin to approach her own.”
The exact release date of Iron Lady has not been announced yet.
A lot of people would rather have a Brit such as Dame Helen Mirren play Thatcher; however, I reckon Meryl is talented enough as an actress to effectively and successfully portray the renowned political leader. Good luck Meryl!
