Curt Smith, co-founder of seminal pop group Tears for Fears, this week announced that he’ll be playing a six-show residency at The Whitefire Theatre in Sherman Oaks. Performances will be Thursday April 14, 21 and 28 and Wednesday May 18, 25 and June 1, all at 8pm.
“My last L.A. residency was in early 2009, and I’ve wanted to do another ever since,” says Smith. “2010 was an incredibly busy year between Tears tours and solo recording, but I was determined to play a residency in 2011. The timing is right this Spring, and the Whitefire is a wonderful venue for me. It’s a proper theatre, yet intimate enough for me to really interact with the audience, which I enjoy. I have, after all, dubbed these shows ‘An Evening of Music and Sarcasm.’”
Smith will perform two sets each show. He’ll draw his set lists from his solo albums Halfway, pleased, and Mayfield; his recent “social media project” collaborations; Tears For Fears favorites; and covers of songs he admires. Joining Smith on stage will be Charlton Pettus on guitar, Doug Petty on keyboards and Jamie Wollam on percussion. All are members of the Tears For Fears touring band.
The Whitefire Theatre is located at 13500 Ventura Boulevard in Sherman Oaks. All ages are welcome. Tickets are $25 each for general admission seats, and are available online only, at http://curtsmith.eventbrite.com. There is also a link at Smith’s website, www.curtsmithofficial.com.
