British actor Henry Cavill, best known for portraying Charles Brandon, First Duke of Suffolk, on the Showtime series The Tudors and who was recently hired to play Clark Kent/Superman in Warner Bros.’ upcomingMan of Steel movie, just got engaged to his show-jumper girlfriend, Ellen Whitaker. Cavill popped the question while he and Whitaker were on a trip to Hollywood.
Whitaker is currently in training to make the British show-jumping team for the 2012 Olympics, which will be held in London. Regarding the proposal, Whitaker declared: “I couldn’t believe it when he asked me to marry him. I thought we were there to celebrate his birthday. It was such a surprise and I am so happy.”
Reportedly, Cavill called Whitaker’s father, Stephen, at home near Barnsley, South Yorkshire, to ask his permission before getting down on one knee. Congratulations to the happy couple! Let’s hope Cavill’s relatively new-found international fame is not kryptonite for their impending marriage!
