Brideshead 30th Anniversary edition coming from Acorn

Classic: Anthony Andrews and Jeremy Irons in their career-defining roles

FANS OF the British television classic “Brideshead Revisited” will want to mark their calendars for November 1st when a 30th anniversary edition of the saga is released on Blu-ray and DVD by AcornMedia.

Based on the timeless novel by Evelyn Waugh, Brideshead Revisited took two years to make and features the cream of Britain’s acting talent. Telling a poignant story of romantic yearning and loss set in the world of British aristocracy, Brideshead unfolds in flashbacks as Charles Ryder (Jeremy Irons), an officer in the British Army, is stationed with his company at a remote country home that turns out to be Brideshead, a home in which he spent much of his younger years. The stationing triggers a multitude of memories of his youth and young manhood, his loves, life, and his journey of faith and anguish. Joining Irons in the cast were Anthony Andrews, Diane Quick, Sir John Gielgud, Claire Bloom, and Sir Laurence Olivier.

The production won a raft of international awards and earned rave reviews from the critics, especially in America. The Washington Post described Brideshead as: “the best series ever seen on American television”, Time Magazine gushed: “Lavish and beautiful” while the Wall Street Journal said: “Enthralling…still stands as one of the finest examples of a distinguished genre”.

These 30th anniversary editions feature an all-new transfer from an HD source and are packed with special features, including a Revisiting Brideshead documentary, a 2006 documentary including retrospective interviews with Jeremy Irons, Anthony Andrews, Diana Quick, director Charles Sturridge, and many more (48 min.); two episode commentaries featuring stars Jeremy Irons, Anthony Andrews, Diana Quick, and others; a photo gallery, outtakes and a 20-page viewer’s guide.
