Lucky Baldwin’s Dave Farnsworth passes away

Mecca: Farnsworth turned Lucky Baldwin's into a destination for Belgian beer fans

English expat Dave Farnsworth, one of the co-owners of Lucky Baldwin’s Pub in Old Town Pasadena, passed away on Oct. 28, 2011 following a long struggle with ALS. He was 59.

One of the region’s leading evangelists for craft – especially Belgian – beer, Farnsworth’s death prompted numerous tributes on the Lucky Baldwin’s website and at leading beer authority thefullpint.com. Farnsworth was called “a huge part of craft beer history” who, “…provided a Southern California landmark destination for good beer”. Farnsworth loved Belgium and traveled there as often as he could get away. He was so revered for his work promoting Belgian ales that he was given an honorary knighthood by the Belgian Brewers Guild, as a  Knight of the Mash Staff, according to fullpint.com.

Together with partner Peggy Simonian, Farnsworth bought the original Lucky Baldwin’s operation from founders Gail and Judah Casburn in 1996 and over the years expanded into a mini-chain, with three locations including the Delirium Pub in Sierra Madre and their newest location in East Pasadena near Pasadena City College.

Our condolecences go out to Dave’s family and all those associated with Lucky Baldwin’s.
