Ex-footballer turned Hollywood actor Vinnie Jones certainly isn’t known for his softer side. As a player he was a renowned hardman who played the rugged enforcer role in a particularly physical fashion. And in most of his better known movie roles such as Big Chris in Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, he has played uncompromising, merciless gangsters. But Jones has showed his more caring side by starring in a British Heart Foundation (BHF) TV campaign to rase public awareness about how best to resuscitate a cardiac arrest victim.
In the hilarious video, Jones, in spoof gangster character mode, demonstrates how to save lives via administering hands-only CPR to the beat of the Bee Gees’Stayin’ Alive. Accompanied by two dodgy-looking associates, Jones is seen ‘discovering’ an unconscious man in an empty warehouse before pointing out the rights and wrong of bringing him around.
Jones insisted: “There really shouldn’t be any messing about when it comes to CPR. If you’re worried about the kiss of life just forget it and push hard and fast in the centre of the chest to Stayin’ Alive. Hands-only CPR should give have-a-go heroes the confidence to step in and help when somebody is in cardiac arrest.”
