British Actor Jonny Lee Miller is set to play Sherlock Holmes in a new U.S Television update of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle‘s famous detective stories.
Entertainment Weekly reports the proposed CBS show, titled Elementary, will center on the life of the famous sleuth as he solves mysteries in contemporary New York, however this modern day Holmes will work as a private investigator in the city.
Miller, known for movies such as Trainspotting, and Æon Flux, already has an impressive number of US TV credits under his belt, having played the title role in legal drama Eli Stone and more recently the popular recurring character Jordan Chase in the fifth season of Dexter.
This is great news for Miller (who was briefly married to Angelina Jolie), if the pilot is picked up a series will be made in time for the autumn… Although I reckon this is sure to ruffle a few feathers at the BBC if Elementary even slightly resembles their already highly-popular and groundbreaking Sherlock series, currently airing on BBC America and starring Benedict Cumberbatch…
We will just have to wait and see!
