This Sunday sees the second and final part of the compelling British World War One drama Birdsong, based on Sebastian Faulks’ bestselling novel. In part one last week we saw Englishman Stephen Wraysford (Eddie Redmayne, pictured) visiting France in 1910 to study textile manufacturing, where he fell in love with a factory owner’s bewitching wife, Isabelle Azaire (Clemence Poesy). Part two sees Stephen and his men in the hellfire of the battle of the Somme in 1916. As he prepares to go over the top for one of history’s bloodiest-ever battles, his memories of the past haunt him. Will he survive? And will he ever be reunited with the woman he loves?
Birdsong, part two, airs Sunday, April 29 from 9-10:30pm on PBS.
