Earlier this week I had pleasure of having lunch at the Chateau Marmont with Amanda Eliasch, the outgoing and creative socialite, (and friend of Prince Andrew).
The uber-stylish platinum blonde, dressed up to the nines, pops in and out of Los Angeles several times a year, making her presence increasingly felt each time she does.
Recently, Ms. Eliasch had a critically acclaimed pop art-inspired series Seven Deadly Sins, a neon exhibition at Leadapron Gallery.
Not to mention the sell-out run of her play As I Like It, based on her wacky life, at the trendy Macha Theatre in West Hollywood.
This project, I am told is currently in the early stages of being made into a feature film.
Amanda’s lunch guests included singer Lisa Zane, top casting director, Jane Jenkins, artist Yassi Mazandi, actor/writer, Edward Bennett-Coles, Ronnie Sassoon (her last name says it all), Heather Kerzner (Ex-wife of billionaire, Sol Kerzner) and…Monica Lewinsky.
Yes, THE Monica Lewinsky!
I didn’t recognize America’s most infamous intern at first. I knew I had seen her somewhere before, but I couldn’t quite place where exactly for the life of me.
It wasn’t until Amanda, with her hoarse British voice shouted across the table:
“Hey, Monica, I have a pair of statues of you and Bin Laden by Kenny Hunter on my mantle, the pieces are called ‘the two people that brought down America!’” – Hysterical!
A momentary silence was bestowed upon table… Well, kind of…
With that, Lewinsky stared back at Amanda with a shy and uncomfortable, grin.
This was one of those embarrassing moments, when your one wish was for the ground would open up and swallow you whole.
Surprisingly, Lewinsky was a real sport, it appeared the comments made were like water off a duck’s back, and we all continued our conversations as if nothing had happened.
Bless the flamboyant Amanda, her head is so high in the happy clouds these days she was completely oblivious as to what might have transpired had Monica been offended. Not even realizing what she’d said until it was brought to her attention after Monica had left.
It’s stories like this that makes Amanda Eliasch’s life so, so interesting… For this reason, I cannot wait for “As I Like It”…the movie!
